Authorities said a Texas sheriff’s deputy was ambushed and gunned down “execution-style” Friday night while he pumped gas for his car.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. William Kennard told CNN Saturday morning that authorities had taken a man believed to be the gunman into custody.

Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman identified the victim in a news conference as 47-year-old Darren Goforth, a 10-year veteran of the force.

“He was literally gunned down in what appears to be an unprovoked, execution-style killing,” Hickman said, as quoted by CNN. “I have been in law enforcement for 45 years, I have never seen anything this cold-blooded.”

Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Thomas Gilliland told reporters earlier in the night that a male suspect approached Goforth from behind as he was pumping gas at a Houston-area gas station and shot him multiple times. The suspect shot the deputy again several times as he lay on the ground and then fled, according to Gilliland.

Authorities weren’t aware of a motive for the shooting, according to Gilliland.

Oh dear. This is a terrible story. The person of interest from the video camera appears to be a black man. I can just imagine the backlash

  2. The annals are full of grief for those minorities who believe that this type of thing is even worth contemplating.

This goes up and down the line…from murderous actions like this one to things that most people don’t even think about.

I remember moving into a neighborhood when I was younger in which I was the only Latino around. I understood that if I were to not keep up my property at least as well as my neighbors, I would incur some “there goes the neighborhood” vibe.

This can apply to jobs, positions and a host of other things.

Blacks in this particular locality are in a heightened state, to be sure.

This is so tragic. As is all the horrible gun violence. The news reporters. People unarmed being killed by police. Shooters in theaters and schools. Overwhelmingly depressing.

  4. Gun Control…gun control…gun control…gun control…before its too late.
