Former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said Tuesday that the Obama administration “owes the Jews of Europe an apology” for suggesting that the four victims of the Paris kosher grocery attack were targeted “randomly.”

In an interview posted by the news site Vox on Monday, Obama made reference to “violent, vicious zealots who behead people or randomly shoot a bunch of folks in a deli in Paris,” an apparent reference to the fatal shooting of four shoppers at a Kosher deli.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest then appeared to defend the characterization, saying that the victims were killed “not because of who they were, but where they randomly happened to be.” He later tweeted: “Terror attack at Paris Kosher market was motivated by anti-Semitism. POTUS didn’t intend to suggest otherwise.”

During a discussion of the the incident on the Fox News show “The Five,” Perino said it left her “nearly unable to breathe.”

“I actually think the President owes the Jews of Europe an apology,” Perino said. “They deserve better from the President of the United States. Antisemitism is on the rise, and somebody must stick up for them.”

Co-host Kimberly Guilfoyle then urged Perino to “take it a step further,” asking: “How about the Jews of the world deserve an apology?”
