One GOP candidate for Texas’ lieutenant governor seized on the Academy Awards for an opportunity to blast his opponent just days ahead of the state’s primary election.

State Sen. Dan Patrick (R) tweeted an image of an Oscar statuette three times during Sunday night’s ceremony, accompanied by a message saying current Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst (R) should win best actor for “pretending to be a conservative:”

It’s a line straight out of the Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) playbook. Stockman has built his own primary campaign against Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) on attacks labeling the Senate minority whip a “liberal.”

Patrick is the same Texas lawmaker who accidentally endorsed same-sex marriage in a tweet reacting to a federal judge’s decision to strike down the state’s ban on those unions.
