Stewart: Rivalry Between ISIS And Al Qaeda Is A ‘Classic Coke V. Pepsi Situation’

Jon Stewart discussed the possibility of going back to war in Iraq during Tuesday night’s episode of “The Daily Show,” denouncing ISIS because “these people aren’t just terrorists, they are plagiarists.”

“What the f*ck is wrong with these guys?” Stewart asked. “You just storm into a country like Iraq, uninvited and destroy the place? In the name of implementing your favorite system of governance?”

After noting the countries that were going to stand with the U.S. to form a “Coalition of the Willing” against ISIS, Stewart excitedly exclaimed: “We got the band back together! Boom!”

He mused that ISIS must be truly hated if even Iran was willing to work with the United States to defeat the terrorist group. “But,” he noted, “you know, deep down, who hates ISIS the most? ISIS. That’s why they act out.”

Stewart pointed out the dichotomy between ISIS and Al Qaeda and likened the competition to a “classic Coke v. Pepsi situation.”

“Two globally-recognized brands competing for the same key demographic: men, 18 to 24 who don’t particularly care about making it to that next demographic,” Stewart said.

With all of the attention that ISIS has received, Stewart lamented that Al Qaeda has lost some of its panache, even attempting to rebrand the fallen terrorist group by urging them to spin their weaknesses as strengths.

“Al Qaeda, you’re not old-fashioned with the caves and the VHS tapes. You’re an artisanal, slow terror, bomb-to-table organization.”‘
