Colbert: Militarization Of Schools Will Teach Kids ‘Valuable Life Lessons’

Stephen Colbert threw his support behind the militarization of school districts during Wednesday night's episode of "The Colbert Report."

Stephen Colbert defended the Pentagon’s practice of giving surplus military equipment to school districts on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Colbert Report.”

Colbert played a news clip revealing that the San Diego School District received an armored vehicle.

“Hey, the San Diego School District needs that MRAP to defend itself in case Los Angeles school districts get grenade launchers — which they did,” Colbert said.

He was quick to point out that “as the San Diego School District’s police chief explained, it’s not as scary as it looks.”

The show played a clip of the police chief talking about the armored vehicle.

“There will be medical supplies in the vehicle,” the chief said. “There will be teddy bears in the vehicle.”

Colbert applauded this effort of making the tank appear less intimidating.

“What a valuable life lesson, kids. When you see an urban military strike vehicle, run toward it for the free teddy bears,” he said.

  1. First it’s law enforcement by overwhelming firepower.

Then it’s school discipline by overwhelming firepower.

What’s next, voter suppression by overwhelming firepower? When the military starts providing surplus gear to county election commissions, it’s definitely time to get worried.

Why doesn’t the military provide some of this stuff to the Bureau of Land Management for their next run-in with the Bundy clan?

  2. There are no words to express how stupid giving military equipment to school districts really is. What Congressional yahoo thought it would be a good idea?

  3. Colbert can make fun of these things as much as he wants, but San Diego and the whole Country schools NEED MRAPs so that their teachers can safely remove pop tart bitten into guns from those pesky and dangerous elementary kids. There is nothing more educative than a .50 Cal mounted Humvee to subdue a first grader who is pointing his thumb-index fingers at you.

  4. Dam you Colbert, we sure are going to miss you when you’re gone.

  5. The Pentagon needs to think of better recycling options.
