Sen. Thad Cochran’s (R) campaign on Wednesday said it was time for state Sen. Chris McDaniel (R) to concede the U.S. Senate primary in Mississippi.

Austin Barbour (pictured), an advisor to Cochran’s campaign, said during a press conference that McDaniel’s lawyers have yet to provide “any numbers or facts.”

Instead, Barbour said, they have tried to “fill that gap with rhetoric, grandstanding and fundraising events.”

He said that the Mississippi election system worked during the initial primary on June 3, and again in the runoff on June 24.

“Their only issue is that they didn’t win on June 24th,” Barbour said.

Earlier on Wednesday, McDaniel’s campaign held a press conference to announce that it had yet to file a formal challenge to the election results. One of the state senator’s lawyers said the campaign would not file a challenge unless it had enough evidence. Yet later in the conference, another McDaniel lawyer said he expected to file within the next 10 days.
