Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said Sunday that she thought her opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), has “every right” to finish his campaign as he chooses.
NBC News’ “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd asked Clinton if she thought Sanders was helping presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump by staying in the race.
“Oh, I don’t think so. I think that Senator Sanders has every right to finish off his campaign however he chooses,” Clinton said.
She went on to say that she thought there will be an “obvious need” to eventually unify the party. Clinton also said later in the interview that she expects to be the nominee.
Clinton has before said that she knows “it’s hard” to quit a race to the White House, and pointed to her failed presidential bid in 2008 against then-Sen. Barack Obama.
