Carjacking Victim Escaped Suspected Boston Bombers, Affidavit Says

The victim of a carjacking by the alleged Boston bombers on Wednesday night escaped his kidnapping when his two captors went into a gas station, according to an affidavit from FBI special agent Daniel R. Genck.

The victim told investigators that one of the alleged bombers tapped on his car window near midnight on April 18 and forced his way in when the victim rolled down his window. “Did you hear about the Boston explosion?” he asked. “I did that.”

The carjacker then pulled the magazine out of his gun to show the victim there was a bullet in it before reinserting it. “I am serious,” he added.

The carjacker and the victim picked up the second suspect, and then stopped to get cash using the victim’s ATM card. While stopped a third time at a gas station, the two carjackers got out of the car at which point the victim escaped, according to Genck.

According to an NBC News report, the victim told authorities the carjackers had allowed him to live because he “wasn’t American,” however that detail is not found in the affidavit.

Genck says in the affidavit that he used surveillance footage to conclude that the two carjackers were Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
