Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday thanked the executive chairman of Ford Motor Co. for “saving our ass,” according to a pool report.

Biden was touring the American International Auto Show in Detroit with Ford executive chairman Bill Ford Jr. and Rep John Dingell (D-MI). The pool reporter couldn’t make out Ford’s response.

Out of Detroit’s three major automakers, Ford was the only one that did not seek a government bailout from the Obama administration after the 2008 financial crisis.

Biden sat in several new cars and said he felt like a “kid in a candy shop,” according to the pool report, prompting Ford to joke “I think he’s driving back in one.”
