Poll: Walker Still Leads Barrett By Five Points In Wisconsin Recall

The new Daily Kos/Public Policy Polling (D) survey of the Wisconsin gubernatorial recall shows Republican Gov. Scott Walker continuing to lead the Democratic nominee, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, who just won his primary last week.

The numbers: Walker 50 percent, Barrett 45%, plus independent Hari Trivedi with 2 percent. The survey of likely voters was conducted from May 11-13, and has a ±3.4 percent margin of error.

These numbers are identical to the previous poll from mid-April.

The general election will be held on June 5, just three weeks from today.

The TPM Poll Average currently gives Walker a lead of 50.6-44.5.

In addition, the poll gives Lt. Gov Rebecca Kleefisch a narrow lead over Democratic nominee Mahlon Mitchell, a Madison firefighter and statewide union leader: Kleefisch 46 percent, Mitchell 43 percent.

In the previous poll, Kleefisch led by 46-40.

In normal Wisconsin elections, candidates for governor and lieutenant governor run separately in the primary, and then together as a ticket in the general election. This time, though, Walker and Kleefisch are now in separate elections for the recall — meaning that it is theoretically possible for opposite parties to win each race. The conventional wisdom, however, has been that the results will likely match up.
