Colbert: Like An Etch A Sketch, Romney Is ‘Square And Colorless’

Stephen Colbert on Monday addressed the Etch a Sketch kerfuffle plaguing Mitt Romney’s campaign. But what’s the big deal, Colbert asked? LIke the classic toy, Romney is also “square and colorless.”

“People think that was a metaphor for Romney being inconsistent,” Colbert said. “But the Etch a Sketch is very consistent. You can shake it all you want, but all you’re going to be able to draw are stairs.”

And wasn’t Romney senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom just telling the truth when he let the Etch a Sketch slip? “Why are people trying to turn these comments into something craven?” Colbert said. “He’s just saying that a candidate will say anything to get the nomination, then say anything to get elected, then say anything to get a second term, then stand on principle … for six months, until he’s a lame duck. You know, courage.”
