The irony of Donald Trump perhaps consigning the RNC to another eight years of federal court supervision under a consent decree that has already lasted more than 30 years may be one of the richer ironies of the 2016 election. Tierney Sneed has more on today’s big late breaking legal development on the campaign trail.
The DNC cites last week’s story by Tierney Sneed in its legal filing today seeking to have the RNC held in contempt by a federal court for violating that decades-old consent decree that bars it from engaging in euphemistic “ballot security” measures. I mention that not to brag on Tierney (though it is a good story) as much as direct you to some of the key backstory on how Donald Trump dragged the RNC into this mess.

I wanted to give you an update on our Prime sign-up drive: How we’re doing, why we’re doing it and what we have lined up for the remainder of 2016. If you’re a regular reader, Prime or not, can you take a moment to read the following? I appreciate it.
In almost every election you see isolated reports of voting machines ‘changing’ people’s votes. In virtually every case, as Texas election authorities are explaining now, it’s human error. In exceedingly rare cases, it’s a mechanical malfunction. It’s never a conspiracy. Except this time, the candidate is Donald Trump so he’s tweeting about the ‘conspiracy’ to flip votes to Hillary.
This afternoon the White House announced that President Obama had commuted the sentences of 98 individual serving time for various drug related offenses. Press release after the jump.
With the news tonight that Trump’s fundraising has dropped off a cliff in recent weeks, I was intrigued by this note from TPM Reader JC who repeats that he’s been hit with no fewer than 50 emails from Trump, various wastrel sons, and other Trump entities just since October 21st (apparently many more in his spam folder). Everybody’s getting hit pretty hard for money these days. But that seems like a lot.
Note that JC is not a foreign parliamentarian. So at least there’s that.
I’m writing in from Seattle, WA. I just checked my inbox and saw that I have received more than 50 e-mails since October 21st (and even more lurking in my Spam folder) from a variety of Trump resources begging for money.
