Watching things unravel, it’s hard not to ask, where’d they find Trey Gowdy?
The latest, of course, is that he inadvertently revealed the name of a CIA asset in the course of falsely accusing Hillary Clinton of doing the same. Great work! This is after being reduced to demanding that fellow Republicans in the House stop saying his Committee is abjectly political and designed to attack Hillary Clinton. He’s even telling reporters “these have been among the worst weeks of my life.”
We’ve had enough of our US elections that we haven’t had much of any chance to cover the election tonight in Canada. Suffice it to say, stuff has gotten rough enough for incumbent PM Harper that he actually had to stoop to the level of enlisting Ford Nation in his campaign. I’m watching the results here on the CBC site (seems reasonable choice?)
The word going into tonight is that it looked like the Liberals, led by Justin Trudeau, the son of legendary Canadian PM Pierre Trudeau, looked like it might be on the verge of unseating Harper and creating a majority Liberal government. And the polls show that the Liberals only really started to break away in the last month or so. I don’t have enough of a feel to know whether that’s going to happen or not?

Liberals win big in Canada, will form majority government with Justin Trudeau as Prime Minister.
A profile of Justin Trudeau, son of iconic Canadian PM Pierre Trudeau, Canada’s next Prime Minister.
The news that Fox News is accusing Donald Trump of “soft Trutherism” for stating the obvious fact that 9/11 happened on George W. Bush’s watch shows the depth of denial that still exists on this issue – especially on the right. For me, this issue is less that Bush is at fault as the fact that he somehow became the guy who “kept us safe” when the worst and to date only catastrophic terror attack on US soil happened on his watch.
Catherine Thompson just updated us on the latest stumble for Rep. Trey Gowdy and his laughable Benghazi committee. Now he’s had to return donations tied to the PAC that ran that anti-Hillary ad with Chris Stevens’ tombstone. Dan Backer ran Gowdy’s own leadership PAC until Gowdy got the Benghazi gig and then left for StopHillaryPac (See the article linked above for the details). So look what turns up in our inbox when you search the StopHillaryPac email and Gowdy’s name. Image after the jump.
Definitely, arms length.
Jeb at 5% nationwide, barely edging out Huckabee and Rand Paul at 4%.

I was wondering if/when you were you going to post about the election in Canada!
I’m an expat Canadian living in the NY area. This has been an incredibly fascinating election, not least because the leader of the Liberal Party is the son of the legendary PM of the 1970’s and 1980’s, Pierre Trudeau.
Trudeau is largely responsible for shaping the Canada that the rest of the world is familiar with; small ‘l’ liberal, progressive taxes, multicultural, non-interventionist, peacekeeping. He was friendly with Jimmy Carter and Fidel Castro (here’s a picture of Castro holding New PM Justin Trudeau’s brother, Michel as a baby) and by some accounts with John Lennon and Yoko Ono; he opened relations with China before Nixon made it cool. He is literally a modern founding father of Canada, in that he repatriated our constitution from the United Kingdom and pushed through the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (our bill of rights) in the early 1980’s.
