Amazing Story

Harper Lee, author of To Kill a Mockingbird, is suing to reclaim the copyright to her Pulitzer Prize winning novel. The son-in-law of her former agent allegedly took advantage of her declining eyesight and hearing to get her to assign the copyright to him. Lee is 87 years old.

No More Mr. Nice NRA

You might not have thought the NRA could get crazier or dabble more in incitement than they already were. But you’d be wrong. In truth, outgoing president David Keene (a long time conservative activist not exclusively tied to the gun issue) was the less confrontational face of the organization relative to Wayne LaPierre (low bar). But all that’s in the past with the ascension of new President James Porter. Read More

Ooops

Colin Darch, 75, was taken hostage by Somali pirates in 2008 and now lectures about the incident. Alas, when he showed up to give his lecture at the UK-based Women’s Institute last month he was greeted by dozens of women in eye-patches, swords and pantaloons who apparently thought Darch lectured on stuff like Black Beard and Captain Kid and the old-fashioned shiver me timbers style piracy.

When Stories Collide

On March 10th, Middlefield, Ohio police made what appeared to be a routine traffic stop of a man who had run a stop sign. But then James Gilkerson emerged from his stopped car firing 37 rounds from an AK-47 rifle. Amazingly the two officers in the cruiser sustained only relatively minor injuries and fired off 54 rounds of their own, eventually killing Gilkerson.

You can see the shocking and somewhat disturbing dash-cam video released by local police just this weekend here. Read More

WTF, Terry?

Put me down as still thinking Terry McAuliffe as the odds-on favorite to win the Virginia governorship. Cuccinelli’s base knows him extremely well and loves him. McAuliffe, as a candidate as opposed to someone known by political insiders, is relatively unknown and not terribly connected to President Obama. But having said all that, WTF? This is a pretty daunting poll for Democrats. (The poll finds Cuccinielli running 5 points ahead of McAulliffe.) Not because it’s necessarily dispositive about this race but because the extremely damaged GOP brand just doesn’t seem to matter as much as some seem to expect. If you’re not familiar with Ken Cuccinelli he’s basically the avatar of all the GOP’s most extreme positions. And yet he’s running a few points ahead of the Democrat in this race, albeit hardly a strong candidate.

Post-Gun Dystopia

Top author at NRA convention over the weekend encourages readers to imagine a terrifying firearm-free world in which the US government has banned guns and thrown all the gun-owners into prison.

Friggin’ Unbelievable

At this weekend’s NRA convention you could buy ‘Obama’ mannequins designed for use as target practice which actually bleed when shot.
