Quick Look at the Map

Mitt Romney’s path to 270 is getting really constricted now. Our map follows AP data. So not all of these are called yet by AP. But Wisconsin, Michigan, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania have all been called by some or all networks. That covers the big hail mary reaches for Romney. Read More

Weird

Most people figured that Virginia goes Obama and Florida goes Romney. At the moment though the opposite looks like the most likely result. Again, I’m not one of those total numbers geeks but, man, I just don’t see how Romney pulls Florida out. Virginia could definitely still go either way. But it’s actually looking pretty strong for Romney.

But again, Romney absolutely must win both to win.

Watch The Senate

There’s still a long way to go this evening, but the Senate results so far could not have lined up any better for Democrats. Already they’ve picked up three Republican seats: Lugar’s in Indiana, Brown’s in Massachusetts, and Snowe’s in Maine.

So Republicans need to flip three Democratic seats just to keep things even. Then they need another three to erase the existing Democratic advantage (and even then they’re only tied — unless there’s a Vice President Ryan).

It’s not mathematically impossible to find six seats left on the map tonight, but it’s practically very, very difficult. And Claire McCaskill just held on to her seat in Missouri …

Florida

Gotta say: Do not see how Mitt Romney wins Florida. Don’t pay attention to me until some network calls it. But just mathematically, it’s hard to see.

And if Romney loses Florida, it’s definitely over.

NC Called

AP calls North Carolina for Romney. For the moment no more networks. But it looks quite possible that that could be the only swing state Romney wins. Virginia is still up for grabs. But it looks much better for Obama than it did an hour ago. Much better. And Florida, as I said, it just doesn’t look plausible that Romney can win there.

Indicator

The Denver Post has called Colorado for President Obama. That’s not AP or the networks. But they know the state. Likely where this is going.

NBC Calls Whole Election

Only them so far. But NBC calls the election for President Barack Obama.

For the Ages

We’re going to have a piece on this shortly. But in case you weren’t watching Fox News over the last 45 minutes or so, something for the ages just happened. Shortly after Fox and everyone else called Ohio and the election for President Obama, Rove staged a live TV mutiny. He insisted that the Ohio call had been premature and then forced Fox’s Megan Kelly to make an SNL like walk through the Fox building and confront the network’s official number counters with Rove’s objections.
