Schumer: Time for No Ride List

I don’t want to be blase about potential threats. But I’m really not looking forward to the new “no ride” list for Amtrak, like the “no fly” list for airplanes.

Reps Call for Expedited Withdrawal from Afghanistan

‘Bipartisan’ is the most tortured and ridiculously-used word in American politics. But a genuinely bipartisan group of eight members of the House of Representatives has sent a letter to President Obama calling on him to use the death of Osama bin Laden as a pivot to ramp down the US presence in Afghanistan.

Nope, Try Again

Republicans — and particularly a series of former Bush administration officials — have been hunting around for an angle of attack on the commando raid on bin Laden headquarters in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The latest is that President Obama was wrong to have bin Laden killed. Instead, he should have captured him and then sent him to Gitmo or tortured him or done whatever to get more intelligence from him. The precise instructions and rules of engagement of the OBL raid have not been made completely clear. It’s worth noting that the rules of engagement apparently made a nominal allowance for a bin Laden surrender, though those same rules of engagement made such an outcome all but impossible. In any case, the same leaks say that the President made clear the outcome he wanted and apparently got.

The charges apparently stem from a deepening feud between Ahmadinejad and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Train “no ride” list Revisited

Earlier we noted Sen. Schumer’s call for a train “no ride” list, like the flying “no fly” lists.

TPM Reader BT notes that this issue was actually anticipated several years ago by Ali G.

Pastor Revealed as Faux-SEAL

For years Pastor Jim Moats had been telling his Newville, Pennsylvania congregation that he was a former Navy SEAL. So after the bin Laden raid the local paper, The Patriot-News, asked Moats for his perspective on the attack. But when he regaled them with his own history as a SEAL, replete with scenes lifted from Steven Seagal’s “Under Seige” and “GI Jane” his story started to unravel.
