I can only marvel at the cynicism of Speaker Boehner’s argument about ‘short-term gimmicks’ on the jobs front. Let’s assume for the sake of conversation that we buy that there’s an essential disagreement about macroeconomic policy and its role in spurring job growth in the near term. Let’s also set aside the extremely strong arguments that contractionary policies will almost certainly make the jobs situation worse. Vote fraud bamboozler who recently decried the fact that poor people can vote now says that the President’s jobs bill will give up to $15 billion to groups like ACORN. Which of course no longer exists.
All sorts of states and cities give tax breaks and even cash pay-outs to shows and production companies to locate their shows in their area. But with the news that the state of New Jersey has shelled out $420,000 to Jersey Shore for locating the show in New Jersey, I mean, where else are they going to go?

We’re not quite sure what it means. But the Supreme Court has issued a stay in the case of Duane Buck, 48, who was scheduled to be executed this evening in Texas. A lot of people get executed in Texas. And it’s a pretty rare day when the US Supreme Court intervenes. In this case, it has added political implications because the Gov. of Texas is running to be president. And he’s made a point of pride in the state’s record on capital punishment and his confidence that everyone executed is guilty.
