We’ll be bringing you primary election results tonight from Georgia, Connecticut, Minnesota and Colorado. So stick around.
The polls just closed at 7 p.m. ET in Georgia, where former Rep. Nathan Deal and Karen Handel are facing off in the GOP gubernatorial runoff. The last poll of the race out today has Deal edging ahead in a race that’s too close to call. The winner faces former Democratic Gov. Roy Barnes in the fall.
Polls close at 8 p.m. ET in Connecticut, and the big one we’re watching is the Republican primary for U.S. Senate. That’s where former WWE CEO Linda McMahon, wife of pro wrestling impresario Vince McMahon, looked to have a pretty much uncontested road to the GOP nomination until former Rep. Rob Simmons relaunched his campaign after essentially abandoning the race. Even though McMahon is up big in the latest polls, Simmons’ odd on-again/off-again campaign throws an interesting twist into this race. Dems are rooting for a McMahon win.
Polls just closed in Colorado, where Sen. Michael Bennet is trying to fend off a primary challenge from Andrew Romanoff. We’ll be watching this one closely.
Late Update: Almost half the precincts are in, and Bennet is up 53-47, with about a 13,000-vote lead. I should point out that the GOP primary is even tighter.
With 74% of the precincts reporting, Nathan Deal has a 10,000-vote lead over Karen Handel with about 490,000 votes counted so far in the GOP runoff for governor in Georgia.
Late Update: Getting tighter now. With 82% reporting, Deal’s lead is down to 7,000 votes.
Linda McMahon has had a steady lead all night in the GOP primary for U.S. Senate in Connecticut. In fact, Rob Simmons has been closer to falling into third place behind Peter Schiff than he has been to catching McMahon.
Late Update: And now the AP calls it for McMahon. More here.
The Denver Post is already calling it for incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet in the Colorado Democratic primary. With just shy of 60 percent reporting, Bennet has a 54-46 lead over Andrew Romanoff.
Late Update: The AP has called it, too. More on Bennet’s victory here.
Former Rep. Nathan Deal’s lead now down to only 4,000 votes, with 86% reporting, in the runoff to be the Republican nominee for governor of Georgia.
Wrestling chieftain Linda McMahon wins the GOP nomination in Connecticut for U.S. Senate. Sen. Michael Bennet is on his way to winning by a comfortable margin in the Democratic primary in Colorado, and the tea party candidate Ken Buck is ahead of the establishment GOP candidate Jane Norton for the right to challenge Bennet (although still too close to call). No huge surprises, but some very advantageous outcomes for Dems.
