Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) mixed in some humor but also got choked up on the Senate floor today as he lamented the DADT policy.
“Some people dabble in drugs to rebel. That’s how I rebelled. But you know, who didn’t do some questionable things in high school, and who doesn’t regret the eighties to some extent? And I most certainly regret bringing it up to Bill Maher.”

I just wanted to update you on one story we were on this afternoon.
As some of you have probably already heard, shortly after Senate Republicans prevented a vote on repealing DADT this afternoon, a commentor identifying himself as “Jimmy” left a derogatory comment (“All fa–ots must die”) on the Joe.My.God. website, a popular LGBT-focused blog.
Other commenters on the site quickly traced the IP address of the comment to a senate.gov IP address located in Atlanta, Georgia near the local offices of the state’s two senators. Read More
Quinnipiac has Carl Paladino (he of the racist emails, et al.) within 6 points of Andrew Cuomo. The big silver lining for Cuomo is that Paladino’s appoval/disapproval is 36/31, something that I doubt would survive much airing of his record.
To prep for a what he believes will be a 2012 presidential run, John Bolton is getting much more outwardly political and election oriented. He’s now partnering with something called the ‘Nationwide Tea Party Coalition’ to sponsor a big election day event, the Election Day Tea Party.

Conventional wisdom says that when Dems are in trouble they reach for the life preserver of Social Security politics. And there’s some truth to that. But it’s also true that when Dems are in trouble tends, in the nature of things, to be when Republicans are energized and emboldened. And that’s when they’re most open about wanting to phase out Social Security completely.
So while Republicans have for years been trying to stop anyone from using the word ‘privatization’ to describe their preferred policy, things are going so hog wild for GOPers now that that’s apparently old news. The Club for Growth, the big right-wing GOP pressure operation, just come right out and said it. “Private Social Security? Hell yeah!”
And now Dems are seizing on the opening.
We checked in with Sen. Saxby Chambliss’s (R-GA) office this morning to see if they have any developments in their internal “fa–ots must die” message board investigation. His office tells us they’ve got nothing new after their statement last night. So it sounds like their internal investigation continues.
