Conventional wisdom says that when Dems are in trouble they reach for the life preserver of Social Security politics. And there’s some truth to that. But it’s also true that when Dems are in trouble tends, in the nature of things, to be when Republicans are energized and emboldened. And that’s when they’re most open about wanting to phase out Social Security completely.
So while Republicans have for years been trying to stop anyone from using the word ‘privatization’ to describe their preferred policy, things are going so hog wild for GOPers now that that’s apparently old news. The Club for Growth, the big right-wing GOP pressure operation, just come right out and said it. “Private Social Security? Hell yeah!”
And now Dems are seizing on the opening.
