Won’t Have Him To Kick Around Anymore

I fear there are quite a few people will be missing on Wednesday morning. One for me though is going to be Carl Paladino. Before he shuffles off this electoral coil, check out this little moment from the end of last week where he gets miffed and walks off in the middle of an interview.

Alaska Race Totally Bizarre (What’s New?)

PPP just came in with results of a new poll of the Alaska Senate race and results are just deeply weird. One thing I’ll say is that this may really be the race whose outcome is more difficult to predict than any other in the country.

The big eye-popper from the poll is that McAdams, the Dem, and the guy no one has really expected to win, is dramatically more popular than either Miller or Murkowski. Not to say he has more support, he doesn’t. But his favorable numbers are much, much better than either Miller or Murkowski. Miller’s favorability rating is 36% to 59%. Basically people totally hate the guy. Read More

Ohio Gov’s Race Dead Heat

Gov. Ted Strickland (D) has come back from the dead in Ohio, where the latest Quinnipiac poll shows him in a dead heat with former Rep. John Kasich (R). Kasich polls at 47 percent, Strickland at 46 percent.

According to Quinnipiac: “Strickland, who had trailed by double digits earlier in the fall campaign, is leading among Democrats 90 – 6 percent, but Kasich is ahead among Republicans 83 – 10 percent and independent voters 57 – 36 percent in the survey completed Saturday of those who say they are likely to vote or have already cast their ballots.” Read More

Who Succeeds Reid?

Taking a cold eye to the electoral map, you’d have to say that as of today the most likely outcome tomorrow is that Democrats keep the Senate majority even as the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid goes down to defeat in Nevada. Brian Beutler looks at the fierce — but, out of respect, quiet — race to succeed Reid as the top dog in the Senate Democratic caucus.

Pay Attention to Washington State

Even as many prognosticators were handing the hard-fought Washington Senate race to incumbent Sen. Patty Murray (D), I couldn’t ever quite close the book on this one in my own mind. It just didn’t seem like a done deal yet. Now we have a new poll out this morning from Public Policy Polling showing Murray trailing Republican Dino Rossi 50-48.

Of the six polls on this race in the last week, Rasmussen was the only other one to give Rossi a lead. In the rest, Murray was leading, in one by as many as 6-points. Whether it’s differing methodologies or a truly volatile race, I don’t know. But I’d keep a close eye on this one.
