As TPM Reader JG points out, this is what TPM looked like on week one.
What most people don’t realize, and I have a hard time believing in retrospect, is that every page of TPM was hand-coded in html from scratch from 2000-2003. At first, I wasn’t aware of any publishing platforms. And I was pretty good with coding. And finally I was convinced to switch to Movable Type.
Eeesh. You know it’s bad for Joe Miller (R-AK) when even the network journalists aren’t buying his unfounded claims of ‘voter fraud’.
It looks like the company working for Maryland GOP governor candidate Bob Erlich that did those last minute voter suppression calls could be looking at put-out-of-business level of fines for the more than 100,000 calls they placed in the hours just before the voting ended.
Presidential aspirant Tim Pawlenty (R) looks like he wants to extend his time as governor past his term of office, using a longshot dispute over the election for his successor as a lever to keep himself in office. Significantly, Pawlenty’s post-governorship would be the first time he had a Republican legislature to work with. So it must be hard for him to resist that possibility with his run in the GOP primaries ahead of him. Interestingly, the apparent loser in the race, Republican Tom Emmer doesn’t necessarily want to go along with it.
To be clear, the Minnesota constitution calls for the departing governor to remain in office until the end of his term or until his successor is confirmed. So if the recount drags on, this is what the state constitution would dictate.
Remember, there was something quite similar in 2008 when the national GOP continued to fund Norm Coleman’s court fight long past the time he had any chance of winning, because it kept Al Franken, a 60th vote from being seated.

US opposition leaders don’t usually tell foreign heads of state that they’ll help the foreign leader provide a check on the American president. And they certainly don’t announce it to the press.
But that does seem to be what Eric Cantor just did with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. As Ron Kampeas at the Jewish Telegraph Agency put it, he couldn’t “remember an opposition leader telling a foreign leader, in a personal meeting, that he would side, as a policy, with that leader against the president.”
Cantor’s spokesman says Kampeas overinterpreted the statement. But if he did, it wasn’t by much. Read for yourself.
