Thank You

We threw a party last night in DC to celebrate the launch of our new TPM2012 page. An event like this is pretty common for media companies nowadays. But if you’ve followed TPM for a long time, from its days as a one-man blog through our evolution into a growing full-service news site, you know that throwing fancy promotional events is kind of a big step for us.

My wife chided Josh and me last night: “You guys almost look legit.” Emphasis on “almost.”

We’re not shooting to become legit. At least not in the traditional sense. We want to stay scrappy and hungry. Being an upstart and an underdog is encoded in the DNA of TPM. We also don’t want to succumb to the company town mentality of DC. “In DC, but not of DC” has been our motto since we opened the bureau here in 2009.

But we’re also eager to tell the story of TPM to a wider audience, and raising our profile will help us do that. It’s a story our readers know well. You’ve played an integral role in that story. We thanked you last night, but since we couldn’t have all of you there, I wanted to thank you here, too. We couldn’t do this without you. Thank you.
