TPM Reader SB checks in the world of healing and pain …

It’s the end of a long week in psychotherapy land. Many women brought to session and read aloud the letter written by the woman raped at Stanford and cried, deep heaving tears; a few for the first time.

She spoke for so many who could not have spoken for themselves.

The number of women who have been raped, many at college, would stagger.

I couldn’t and wouldn’t share their stories.

They may, however, begin to share their own – following the lead of the brave young woman who could finally put to words a truth unspoken, until now.

The accepted culture of excess and entitlement – of nameless sexuality and obliterative drinking, has been a great hiding place for the predatory personality. Every institution that enables such behavior should read and post this young woman’s letter.

For that is the pain that can result from turning a blind eye to the behaviors that cloak a rapist’s intent.
