I’m a bit late to this. But man, if you haven’t seen this, this is beyond amazing. It’s an interview with Reza Aslan, a religion scholar, with expertise on the New Testament, who also happens to be a Muslim. But, well, he went on Fox News. I don’t know what else to say about this. You must watch this. It will … well, just watch.
This is sort of a side-note to what makes this video so awful and amazing. After all, it wouldn’t really make a difference if his book were outrageous or totally out of the mainstream of consensus historical literature.
I haven’t read Aslan’s book; I’ve just quickly skimmed a few reviews. But I do know a decent amount about the academic literature and study of early Christianity and origins of Christianity. And at least the broad thrust of what he’s arguing isn’t really remotely controversial among New Testament scholars or historians of early Christianity.
