The next book by the award-winning investigative reporter and best-selling author will document how President Barack Obama and congressional leaders responded to the economic crisis and where we stand now. Publisher Simon & Schuster announced Tuesday, Aug. 14, the book will be called "The Price of Politics" and will come out Sept. 11. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon, file) MORE LESS

Stung from last week’s embarrassment, Bob Woodward is back on the attack. Now saying Rahm Emanuel helped ruin Washington and make it ‘hyper-partisan’ and with ‘little focus on what’s real.’

Because Rahm did that.

The two accounts — one from the Sun-Times and another from a local Fox affiliate — appear to contradict each other on who spoke first.

Here’s Woodward’s part

“We miss you in Washington, but you’ve left a legacy, and it’s not all your fault, but there is a hyper-partisanship that is so off the charts, I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Woodward, who was the keynote speaker of an event sponsored by the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

“There is so little focus on what’s real, what’s true,” said the Washington Post associate editor whose investigation into the Watergate scandal forced President Richard Nixon to resign.

Rahm ribbed Woodward about thinking Gene Sperling is some sort of heavy. As I said, unclear from the two reports who was responding to whom.

Late Update: TPM Reader JS adds some details …

Josh posted about Woodward now picking a fight with Rahm Emmanuel and wondering, “who started it?”

See this blog post from Crain’s Chicago Business. It would appear that Rahm gave Woodward some good natured ribbing during his introductory remarks at the Holocaust Museum event. Mr. Prickly Pear could not bear it, so he’s lashing out again. Truly a pathetic display by Woodward. Whoever suggested that Woodward has become brittle or thin-skinned after years of unbridled access and deference appears to be correct. He absolutely cannot take an ounce of criticism or even a small joke at his expense. Again, pathetic.
