NC Moves Ahead with Voting Crackdown

In order to limit the votes of their political opponents, North Carolina Republicans – freed up from the restrictions of the Voting Rights Act are pushing through a raft of new voting restrictions including Voter ID, dramatically curtailed early voting, an end to same day registration. A popular high school program designed to register high school students in time for their 18th birthdays is also getting the axe.

Last night I flagged that four more women had come forward with harassment allegations against Bob Filner ranging from borderline sexual assault to gropings to unwanted sexual advances. The four appeared together last night on the local PBS in San Diego to discuss their experiences. Here’s the segment.

Four more women came forward today to publicly accuse San Diego Mayor Bob Filner of sexual harassment. They include “a retired Navy rear admiral, a dean at San Diego State University and the head of the city’s Ports Tenants Association.”

It now seems conceivable that Filner has at one time or another harassed most of the women in public life in the city of San Diego.

Steve King Unbound!

Rep. Steve King (R-IA), the guy who said DREAMers are mainly are drug smugglers, went on the House floor today to defend his comments, actually repeat his comments. We watched it live. And a few times I walked by the folks watching it and “So, what’s he saying exactly?” And these pretty smart folks who produce each day basically said, “We’re really not sure” and understandably so since King went on to talk about Moses and the Greeks and the Founding Fathers and various other people to explain why DREAMers are drug mules.
