It’s gotta be tough for Paul LePage to watch Donald Trump corner the market on Crazy. So he overcompensates.
From Sarah Ellison’s latest report on the Ailes’ scandal …
In less than two weeks, however, [Ailes] was out. The wooden door that famously cordoned his office suite from prying eyes was removed. Within, two handguns were discovered—one a Glock, the other a Smith & Wesson—with ammunition for both. (“Roger has a permit for those two guns,” Ailes’s attorney, Susan Estrich, told me, adding that her client has a license to carry a handgun in New York, “for his personal protection.” She continued: “Those guns are licensed and appropriate.” Ailes has repeatedly denied all allegations of sexual harassment.)
When we publish transcripts of speeches it’s usually in our news pages, not the Editors’ Blog. But I think Hillary Clinton’s speech on the Trump campaign and the mainstreaming of white supremacists hate groups into the GOP is one of the more important speeches of the election cycle. So I’m putting the transcript here in full, after the jump.
So the Attorney General of West Virginia Patrick Morrissey (R) had to fire his spokesperson today because she appeared in a white supremacist video called “The Stop White Genocide Video.”
I’ve mentioned a number of times recently the significant divergence between the national campaign numbers coming from the online tracking polls, often newcomers to the field, and the more traditional premium phone polls. Quinnipiac has had a somewhat GOP leaning sampling approach in the last couple cycles. But their new poll out today puts Clinton 10 points ahead of Trump. Meanwhile the TPM Electoral Scoreboard remains at Clinton 326, Trump 165.
Some amazing stuff in here, as our reporter Tierney Sneed talks to sundry white nationalist and racist leaders about their various levels of sads over Trump embrace of Rubes/Bush ‘amnesty.’ I would counsel people that schadenfreude toxicity is real and dangerous and sometimes fatal. So ease into it.
Sen. Richard Burr’s (R-NC) ad making an appeal to African-American voters uses stock footage of kids in Africa.
(Possibly subtextual message from Burr that North Carolina doesn’t have enough black people – couldn’t find any to film – and he wants more?)
So there you have it. Last night at a rally in Mississippi, Donald Trump brought the 2016 presidential cycle full circle by embracing the Bush/Rubio “amnesty” agenda which kicked off the nomination process in 2015. ‘Embrace’ can’t have much meaning with someone as promiscuous and erratic as Trump. As I said last night, this should be seen more as an effort to sow confusion than anything else.
Liberals may die tonight because there are limited supplies of those injections they give you for acute schadenfreude toxicity. Ann Coulter has been Donald Trump’s biggest New York City white nationalist supporter. She’s transformed toadying into a militant act. Just today her new book In Trump We Trust was released, a genuflecting, tour de force of leader principle obsequiousness. As many have noted, in the book itself she writes that Trump can do anything, change his position on anything – none of it matters. She and they are that devoted. Everything except shift on immigration.
