Churning through countless domestic phone calls is one thing – that has very real constitutional implications. But please, please spare me the shock and surprise that the US spies on foreign leaders, even allies, even close allies. These countries spy on our leaders too. The only real exception is within the special club of the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand where, for a variety of historical reasons, a pretty different set of rules and integration apply.

I’d like to add my two cents to this discussion because I feel like my family’s situation is something that often gets missed.
My wife and I have two children, ages 4 and almost 2. I’m an educator not working under contract and my wife works in agriculture. We’re very, very grateful that we are currently insured via BadgerCare, Wisconsin’s Medicaid program for low income families. We don’t use it much, save the shots and check-ups for the kiddos. But it’s a godsend, a just-in-case sort of comfort.

It was back in the early or maybe mid- 1980s when the Velvet Underground albums were reissued for the first time since their original release in the very late 60s and 1970. I’m not certain but I think I read about this momentous news in Rolling Stone and that it was a really big deal, that all the real music aficionados had been holding on to almost totally played out originals for 15 years or more.
