Lotsa Baggage

Chris Christie’s the man of the moment. And we’ve cheered him recently, like when he smacked down nutball anti-Muslim activists in his home state. But the man comes with a whole lotta baggage too. Like the time back in 2002 when he made a wrong turn onto a one way street, plowed into a motorcyclist and then managed to leave the scene without so much as a traffic citation when he told the cops he was the US Attorney and late to a dinner engagement. Competition

Local banks see opportunity to lure customers away from mega-banks like Bank of America which are sticking new fees on ATM cards.

This is definitely one of the downsides to there being like … what, five banks now? In addition to that whole too big to fail thing.

At the moment I personally bank with Citibank. And TPM does as well. But I hear they’re getting ready to tack on new ATM fees too. It’s occurred to me to try switch these accounts to some non-mega-behemoth bank. But I don’t even have a clear idea what local/smallish banks are left in New York. Anyone got any pointers?

Will a Robot Take Your White-Collar Job?

Automation and robotics has cut like a scythe through middle class incomes and jobs over the last generation. Here’s some evidence that software and artificial intelligence could soon do something similar to the white collar folks who have heretofore been spared.
