Ryan: ‘If You Want To Good At These Jobs, You’ve Got To Be Willing To Lose The Job’
Appearing on This Week, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) dismissed the potential political backlash against his proposals to drastically change and privatize Medicare. “And I hear this all the time from the political people, from the pundits and the pollsters that this could be — this could hurt us politically. I don’t care about that,” said Ryan. “What I care about is fixing this country and getting this debt situation under control. Look, literally, Christiane [Amanpour], if all we fear about is our political careers, then we have no business having these jobs. If you want to good at these jobs, you’ve got to be willing to lose the job.”
McCain Pans Obama For “Backseat Role” On Libya
Appearing on Face The Nation, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) accused President Obama of taking a “backseat role” on Libya. “I would like to remind you that NATO is an organization of 28 countries,” said McCain. “With Italy there’s now seven of them actually in the fight. They don’t have the assets that the United States of America does. …the United States is NATO. So the British and the French – God bless them and others – they don’t have the assets. They are running out of some of their munitions.” He also added: “We need to get back into the fight. We should be leading. We should not be following.”
Axelrod: Obama Said ‘We’ve Got To Put A Stop’ To Birther Questions
Appearing on Meet The Press, former White House senior advisers David Axelrod criticized the media’s focus on Birther conspiracy theories, which led President Obama to release a copy of his original birth certificate last week. “And the president’s point was, the day after he made a speech on this issue that the mayor [New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg (I)] was talking about that’s so important to our country, which is how do we solve this debt problem in a way that is balanced and fair and serves our future, the president did an interview, answered a lot of questions about it, got one question on the birther issue. And on the evening news that night, that was what led the news,” said Axelrod. “And at the moment the president said, ‘You know what, we’ve got to put a stop to this.’ And he, and he wanted to make the point that we have more important issues in this country, and we ought to move on. And the point was as much frankly, David [Gregory], to your industry as it was to anybody else.”
Graham: Qaddafi ‘Should Be Brought To Justice Or Killed’
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said that Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi should be targeted by the drone attacks that President Obama has authorized for use in the country. “He is not a foreign leader. In my view, he’s a murderer,” Graham said. “He’s the source of the problem. He is not the legitimate leader of Libya. He should be brought to justice or killed.”
Graham Blasts Trump: ‘Most Americans Don’t Want Their President To Go Around Saying The F-Word’
Also during his appearance on Fox News Sunday, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) criticized the public behavior of Donald Trump. “Most Americans don’t want their president to go around saying the f-word,” said Graham. “Mr. Trump has a lot to offer, but he will have a tough sale in South Carolina.” Graham also added: “There’s a lot of things Mr. Trump can be proud of, but some of this rhetoric and this focusing on the president’s birth, I do not think is the way for us to win the White House.”
Van Hollen Calls For Release Of Oil From U.S. Strategic Reserve
Appearing on State of the Union, Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) said that the government should consider releasing oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, in order to help deal with rising gas prices: “I would say with respect to price, we’ve seen a supply disruption as a result of Libya, which has helped feed a speculative bubble and the only way to address that in the very short-term is to consider releasing some of the oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.”
Barrasso: U.S. Should Be ‘Exploring For Energy Offshore, On Federal Land And In Alaska’
Appearing on State of the Union, Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) different with Van Hollen, saying that America should deal with rising gas prices by “be exploring for energy offshore, on federal land and in Alaska.” He added that the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is “there for specific emergencies and this isn’t it.”
Rubio: ‘Under No Circumstances’ Would I Be On 2012 Ticket
Appearing on Meet The Press, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said that he would not consider running on the 2012 ticket, even if his party asked him to. “Yeah, I won’t consider it. I don’t want to be the vice president of the United States. I want to be a senator, and I want to be a senator from Florida. I think in the United States Senate I can have an impact on these major issues that we’re facing,” said Rubio. He further added: “No, I’m not going to be on a ticket in 2012…Under no circumstances.”
