Rep. Paul Hodes (D), who is running for senator in New Hampshire, released a new attack ad today against Republican candidate Kelly Ayotte, saying she “ducked responsibility 44 times” when it came to the Financial Resources Mortgage fraud investigation.

FRM is accused of defrauding investors and operating a Ponzi scheme during Ayotte’s time as Attorney General of New Hampshire.

The Hodes campaign says Ayotte is now playing “the political blame game” when it comes to the investigation. “It is very timely to be talking about FRM. It has been a big deal in the state here for the past four or five months,” a spokesman for Hodes said on a conference call with reporters today.

On Sarah Palin’s recent endorsement of Ayotte, the Hodes campaign said they “couldn’t be more thrilled that Sarah Palin chose to endorse Ayotte,” and that “the people of New Hampshire have already rejected Sarah Palin once.”

Ayotte is running against businessmen Jim Bender and William Binnie and former state Board of Education chairman Ovide Lamontagne for the Republican nomination in the September 14 primary. The TPM Poll Average shows Ayotte leading Hodes 49.9%-35.7% in a general election matchup.
