Doctors from the University of Arizona Medical Center just gave a press conference with an update on the victims of the mass shootings Saturday that included Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, and they said that though with Giffords “we’re not out of the woods yet,” so far there’s been no change, and “at this phase in the game, no change is good.”
At this point, Dr. Peter Rhee said, eight of the 20 victims remain in the hospital. Two have been discharged, two remain in the ICU, and one of those two is in critical condition.
Dr. Michael LeMole, who’s in charge of Giffords, said that right now they’re worried about brain swelling, and though so far there’s been no change, “that swelling can sometimes take three days or five days to maximize.” Today is day two. LeMole added that at this point she is doing well enough that there is no need to put a pressure monitor in her brain.
He also said that “at this point we can’t measure psychological function, nor would we try.”

The hospital will hold another press conference Wednesday.
