As Tierney Sneed reported, voting rights groups are accusing the Obama administration of breaking the National Voter Registration Law by not doing enough to give users of federal healthcare exchanges the opportunity to register to vote. Sarah Brannon, of the voting rights group Demos, told TPM that states with their own exchanges have been more cooperative and only California needed to be threatened with a lawsuit. The state came into compliance soon after the threat and now, she said, it is the model for how exchanges should help users register to vote.

Josh Marshall thought the CNBC debate was “terrible” but didn’t realize why the RNC was so upset about it until he saw the breakdown of how much time each candidate got to talk. Candidates like Carly Fiorina and Mike Huckabee, who are barely in the race, got more time than more legitimate contenders.
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “I think the problem goes further back than 2008. Palin was just the manifestation of a lot of terrible things going on within the conservative movement that had been hanging just under the surface for years. When Palin hit the scene, it’s not like Fox News, AM talk radio, THE ALL CAPS BRIGADE!!!!, the post-reality media, chain emails from grandpa, and bumper sticker talking points (Freedom isn’t Free!) all of a sudden popped into existence. The GOP has been hoarding ignorance since Reagan, at least. Palin was just let loose by an accidentally unlocked cage.”
