From The Reporter’s Notebook

Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean (D) reenacted the infamous “Dean scream” at the DNC that earned him years of mockery after dropping his 2004 presidential bid, TPM’s Kristin Salaky reported. After praising Hillary Clinton for her strides in championing healthcare, Dean began wrapping up his speech by listing off states he said Clinton would win. He listed the same states, with similar intensity, as he did during that notorious moment at the 2004 Iowa caucuses. Unfortunately, he omitted the “Yeah!” from the end of his original “scream.”

Josh Marshall: “Trump’s extensive business with Russia, Russian capital, and Russian investors may be totally innocent. Lots of wealthy Americans do lots of business in Russia. Major U.S. corporations do business in Russia. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Of course, they don’t have the Russian security services quite likely running disruption operations on his behalf in a presidential campaign. They also aren’t saying they’ll pull the US out of NATO. It is not business with Russia per se but the totality of circumstances surrounding Trump’s relationship with Russia that is at issue.”

“In a very true way, they really established ISIS.”

BUZZING: Today in the Hive

From a TPM Prime member: “Trump is too undisciplined to take over anything successfully, and it is true he has no ideology. But he has torn down the facade that the Plutocrats always cherished, that is was a ‘solid conservative party’ and not a party of white supremicists (better term than ‘racists’ BTW) who really do not care a fig about those ‘solid conservative values.’ Sure, the same talking heads will say the same stuff after a Trump defeat (I’m willing to bet, if he seems up right now perhaps I should go on the betting sites). Sure, they will parrot the same old, same old, trying to go back to the past. But they will fail. “

Related: Donald Trump doubled down on his previous controversial remarks regarding American support for NATO allies, offering an even more explicit financial ultimatum.
