From The Reporter’s Notebook
Hillary Clinton’s speech slamming Donald Trump’s economic plan was well-timed. As reports that the Trump campaign has a meager $1.3 million cash-on-hand circulated on Tuesday, TPM’s Caitlin MacNeal reported, Clinton openly wondered whether Trump is as rich as he has long claimed.
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “Even if Trump isn’t nuts and gives a polished, telepromptered speech arguing his plans for a better America and the shortcomings of his opponent that would probably go over like a lead balloon. Are you going to be certain to tune in to the next Hillary speech? No, because she’s normal. You have a sense of roughly what she’ll say. She’s not a trainwreck that is impossible not to watch. Trump is. Unless he gets a lobotomy and gives a stolid and routine speech you might expect from someone demonstrating a temperament for the job.”
Say What?!
“I don’t believe anything. I see things.”
– Trump dodged questions on his “personal” comments about Obama after the Orlando shooting.
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “Perhaps Trump is a political savant. But do we believe that he planned/envisioned getting to where he is? I don’t see him as that visionary. That colors my analysis of everything else. I think he’s winging it on instinct. Trump doesn’t care if the GOP goes under this cycle as long as Trump doesn’t go under. That is his MO from all the reporting on his business history. So Trump will play the RNC’s game if he gets his money back. But he’ll play it his way and by his rules. I’m guessing that the result will be a royal screw-up. Trump isn’t focused now on Clinton, he’s focused on the RNC.”
