Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) was one of the few Republicans up for re-election who met with Trump on Thursday, TPM’s Lauren Fox reported. Unlike many Republicans who have tried to distance themselves from Trump, Johnson had only glowing things to say about the meeting. “It was a very good discussion. I think on the whole it was very positive and I think Mr Trump did an excellent job, quite honestly.”
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “Trump was asked — not surprisingly and not unreasonably — what about your unpopularity with Hispanics voters and what about down-ballot races? Trump’s response: No, Hispanics love me! This is obviously ridiculous on its face. The GOP is generally unpopular with Hispanics and Trump is personally unpopular with Hispanic Americans at a level that is historic and unprecedented. We know this from a limitless trove of public opinion data. As a factual matter, it’s no more ridiculous than the 12th Article of the Constitution Trump pledged to protect or numerous other examples of Trump nonsense. But it has a particular import here.”
Say What?!
“I’ll stand up for Article Two, Article 12, you name it of the Constitution.”
– Donald Trump promised to stand up for parts of the Constitution that don’t actually exist.
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “Hillary and her staffers weren’t sitting there going ‘oh, look at this classified document, I should send it to Hillary’s private email address.’ They were discussing the routine things that get discussed within State Department, and a impossibly small amount (0.37%) of their emails contained information that was classified, i.e. an aide may have known some classified information that was relevant to the topic of an email to Hillary’s private address, and she discussed it in that email not remembering or realizing it was classified. That’s all we’re talking about. There’s no intent there; there’s no gross negligence there. Gross negligence would require much more flagrant and reckless disregard for classification procedures and protocol. It’d be much more pervasive than 0.37%.”
