From a TPM Prime member: "Under current law, banks cannot allow stores selling marijuana to process credit cards nor allow those merchants to deposit their money in a bank. This has the effect of suppressing sales and forcing marijuana stores to keep large amounts of cash on hand. The merchants are also prevented from opening checking accounts which makes paying bills difficult. Getting the banking part of this right is the first step in rationalizing marijuana sales so those merchants are put on the same footing as every other store owner. That's why it's two senators from CO. I'm betting you'll see senators from the other states it's now legal to sell marijuana, or about to become legal, quickly signing on to this."
