From The Reporter’s Notebook
In a Friday essay titled “A note on The Toast”, Hillary Clinton bid farewell to the beloved women’s humor site “The Toast” on its last day, as TPM’s Kristin Salaky wrote. Clinton touched on what a site and space like this means for women, and how spaces for women have been important for her since her days in the Senate. “My friend Barbara Mikulski famously started a tradition of dinner parties for all the women of the Senate,” Clinton wrote. “Over a glass of wine — okay, maybe three — we’d give each other support, advice, and highly relevant tips to navigate being in such an extreme minority. I’ve always had great admiration for women like Barb who take it upon themselves to create spaces where women can speak their minds freely.”
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “The more we’ve looked into it, it seems increasingly implausible that he got this list from a list vendor. Not impossible just not likely at all. It now seems more probable that the Trump Organization simply had these emails in some business related database and decided to dump them into the email hopper for the fundraising blitz or just found some site that had a zip file of foreign government officials and used that. As I’ve said, all of these possibilities are outlandish and ridiculous. But we know for a fact that he has and continues to spam members of Parliament in the UK, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland and Iceland and possibly others. So one of these completely preposterous set of facts has to be true.”
Say What?!
“Too straight. Too nothing. Didn’t have the drama.”
– Donald Trump didn’t like the initial plans for the stage on which he is scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention.
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “But she will actually, as I understand it, recuse herself and have the determination made by career prosecutors. And she might have done that anyway, it might have been the original plan, to avoid a political appointee making a decision affecting a major political figure (which Petraeus was not, BTW.) I doubt this whole thing is the result of two people on a TARMAC, one leaving, the other arriving, who know each other, both in the company of others, exchanging greetings and chat about the brand new grandson. Only the VRWC and gullible journos make something out of it. It’s a big nothing, just as the email story is.”
