Hill Republicans Grapple With Donald Trump’s First Days On The Job

The Gist: Congressional Republicans have found themselves simultaneously exhilarated by the idea of a Republican presidency and deeply worried that Trump could pull them off course with his unpredictability and tendency to fixate on his own popularity.

Report: Trump Complains Negative Press Means He Can’t ‘Enjoy’ White House

The Gist: President Donald Trump thinks that unfavorable media coverage of his first weekend in office has not allowed him to “enjoy” the White House, according to a Tuesday report by the Associated Press.

‘Time’ Defends Writer Against Spicer’s ‘Deliberately False Reporting’ Attack

The Gist: Time Magazine defended its White House reporter, Zeke Miller, against the White House press secretary’s charges that he engaged in “deliberately false reporting” for erroneously writing that a bust of Martin Luther King, Jr. had been removed from the Oval Office last week.

After the Badlands National Parks Service account tweeted some facts about climate change Tuesday afternoon, they appear to have been deleted with no explanation, TPM’s Kristin Salaky reported. The tweets disappeared from the Badlands National Park timeline around 5:30 p.m. ET. The National Parks Service media was unavailable for comment Tuesday evening and the Midwest regional office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Agree or Disagree?

Josh Marshall: “Social Insurance programs like Social Security and Medicare have always been an especial focus of TPM. We make our best efforts to cleave through the obfuscating verbiage that politicians use to obscure the consequences cutting, privatizing or phasing out these programs have for millions of Americans. I’m sorry we’ve made Rep. Price sad. But few subjects are more near and dear to our editorial hearts than clarifying reporting on these critical programs.”

Say What?!

“I will be asking for a major investigation into VOTER FRAUD, including those registered to vote in two states, those who are illegal and….even, those registered to vote who are dead (and many for a long time). Depending on results, we will strengthen up voting procedures!”

– The President published a series of tweets to his personal account announcing that he would order an investigation into voter fraud, including a probe into voting by “those who are illegal.”

BUZZING: Today in the Hive

From a TPM Prime member: “This is a man who still doesn’t have a clue as to the workings of government and he’s doing all the easy things right now because he thinks that he’s a CEO. He’s issued 10 executive actions so far from the ACA rollback to TPP to Keystone etc., all in line with his stump speech positions as a candidate and none of them requiring a consensus or a vote. I believe he still thinks that running the country is a matter of imposing his will and making gut-level decisions on a day to day basis trusting his instincts. The idea that there may be existing conditions which would need consideration, as in foreign policy, doesn’t matter to him because he intends to not only remake the nation, but the world according to his half-formed vision. What will Mr. ‘Art of the Deal’ do when he is stymied in any way by the constraints of realpolitik? Don’t think too hard about that question because he doesn’t know either.”
