From The Reporter’s Notebook
TPM’s Esme Cribb reported that Terri Lynn Rote, a resident of Des Moines, Iowa, was arrested Thursday after casting two ballots in the general election. Rote cast one early voting ballot at the Polk County Election Office and another at a county satellite voting location in Des Moines, according to a police report. In an interview with Iowa Public Radio, Rote said that it was a “spur of the moment” decision, and that she was afraid her first vote for Trump would be changed to one for Hillary Clinton. “The polls are rigged,” Rote told Iowa Public Radio.
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “Everything we’ve learned over the last 48 hours-plus suggests Comey had no basis to believe there was significant new evidence, indeed no clear reason to think there was anything new at all. At best, Comey combined extremely poor judgment with a decision to place a near absolute priority on protecting himself from criticism over carrying out his professional and ethical obligations. It is quite telling that even at this late stage of the election, when partisan tempers are naturally running at their fiercest, former career DOJ lawyers, former high level DOJ appointees and legal experts on both sides of the aisle are lining up to say this was not only an extremely poor decision but may even have violated the law.”
Say What?!
“That man’s conduct was deplorable.”
– Trump’s campaign manager allowed that a man who screamed “Jew-S-A” at a Saturday rally in Phoenix, Arizona was “deplorable.”
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “I think Josh is right about what Comey was worried about, he is remarkably thin-skinned. He’s generally been considered ‘above politics’, and his ears were burning about the GOP’s criticism. Frankly, that is a reason for him to go, as Harry Truman so brilliantly put it, ‘If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.’ Basically, he put his thin skin ahead of Department policies. Asking for him to resign won’t work, but putting pressure on him and criticizing him on both procedure (violating policy) and content (stupidly worded letter) is the best approach. If he’s thin skinned, the Dems should put on as much heat as possible to make him squirm.”
