From The Reporter’s Notebook
President Barack Obama was taking questions at a town hall discussion Thursday among law students at the University of Chicago when a reporter stood up and began asking him a question, TPM’s Sara Jerde reported. Obama, appearing annoyed, told the reporter that it wasn’t a “press conference” and was only taking questions from students.
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “All candidates, by definition, say that they’re more qualified than their opponent. Various things Clinton said can be reasonably interpreted as questioning whether Sanders is up to the job of the presidency. But it is an entirely different matter when an opponent, in his own voice, says flatly his challenger is ‘unqualified’ to serve as President of the country.”
Say What?!
“Well, I mean, a lot of people have been charged with various things. That doesn’t necessarily mean we need to demonize them. You’ve probably been charged with something too, maybe with a misdemeanor or something. It doesn’t mean you’re an evil, horrible person.”

BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “Barack Obama maybe saved my life. I lost my job in 2012. I was on COBRA, which ended December 31st 2013. I have a pre-existing medical condition, and was working as a temp at that time, so had no medical insurance through my employer. If not for Obamacare, which started on January 1st 2014, I might have not been able to get medical insurance, and so might have died. That’s just on a personal level why I am grateful for him. Outside of how it affected me personally, I think his greatest achievements have been the PPACA, the Stimulus, the Auto industry bailout (an under-appreciated achievement IMO), and the Cuba-relations thawing. Although I disagree with him vehemently on some issues, I recognize that part of how he has been president is related to the absolute opposition to everything that he has attempted to do by the cavemen on the right, probably partly because of their absolute racism, but also because the Republican party has been descending for 40 or 50 years into a bunch of troglodytes. A transformational president who I think will be remembered as one of the better ones. Certainly he will by me.”
