Say What?!

"Look at the American revolution, the anti-slavery movement, the women’s suffrage movement, the civil rights movement. All of these struck a moral chord with the American people. They all sought to overcome an injustice. And we, too, are seeking to right injustices that are holding our country back."

BUZZING: Today in the Hive

From a TPM Prime member: "Our preference, however, is not really an issue. An individual can express a preference by buying an alternative fuel vehicle, electric vehicle, or hybrid, but no individual consumer's decision is going to have an impact on the choices of vehicle manufacturers or energy companies, and consumers aren't sufficiently organized to impose any meaningful collective pressure. If it weren't for federal regulation, motor vehicles would be a lot less efficient than they presently are. Certainly, there is a preference by both individuals and businesses to select the more cost-effective option, particularly when choosing between options that seem otherwise roughly equivalent. Education can affect that choice, but absent something that compels change — e.g., government-imposed CAFE standards — enough people and businesses will choose the cheaper option such that the impact of those who choose a cleaner or greener alternative is diluted or lost."
