From The Reporter’s Notebook
Despite mocking him on Twitter and even endorsing a man he called his “fifteenth choice,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), over him, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) reportedly told attendees at a private fundraiser to support Donald Trump, TPM’s Sara Jerde wrote. “He did say that we need to get behind him,” Teresa Dailey, a Florida Republican fundraiser who was at the event, told CNN. A spokesman for Graham confirmed to CNN that he attended the fundraiser, but didn’t comment on what he said.
Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “This still comes down to whether Sanders does what he needs to do to wrap up his campaign (though not the movement he’s come to embody) and unify the party. If he does, I think it’s quite likely Clinton is the next President. People often jump in at this point (Sanders often does too) to say, ‘Well, Sanders can’t and won’t just snap his fingers and get his backers to fall in line behind Clinton!’ Sure, but that’s a silly straw man.”
Say What?!
“I don’t want to have guns in classrooms, although in some cases teachers should have guns in classrooms frankly. Because teachers are — you know — things that are going on in our schools are unbelievable.”
– Trump said he thinks some teachers should have guns in their classrooms.
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “I fear [Sanders supporters] really have convinced themselves that they are victims. If your eyes aren’t too crossed by the end of it, take a deep breath and read through the comments — its like an alternative universe. I really think these people are absolutely intent on handing this election to Trump and have convinced themselves that they will bear no responsibility because they warned us that they will not vote for HRC ever. It will be our fault because we did not heed their threats. I realize this is almost unbearably depressing, but better to know what we are dealing with. Its like we are trapped in an abusive relationship with crazy-making assholes — and curiously, the author of the article alludes to the subject of gas-lighting without any self-awareness that that is exactly what he himself is doing. I really think we need to forge ahead and make appeals to reasonable conservative and moderate voters who hate Trump instead of depending on these childish clowns to grow up.”
