GOP Delegates Have No Idea What’s Gonna Hit Them In Cleveland

Grassley Op-ed: SCOTUS Vacancy Ain’t No Thang

From The Reporter’s Notebook

While plenty of New Yorkers say they’ll cast their votes for native son Donald Trump in next week’s Republican primary contest, two of Trump’s own kids won’t be among them, TPM’s Katherine Krueger wrote. Trump confirmed in a Monday call-in to Fox News his children Ivanka, 34, and Eric, 32, never registered to vote in New York’s closed primary because they “were unaware of the rules.”

Agree or Disagree?

Josh Marshall: “We’re starting to see Donald Trump move into full “I’m being cheated” and “the system is rigged” mode as Cruz makes more progress on the ‘dark delegate’ front and perhaps makes progress in the polls too. Trump is starting to sound both literally and figuratively like a loser. But remember, for this to play out how the big party stakeholders want it to they’ve got to steal it from Trump AND Ted Cruz. Yes, both. That seems awful, awful hard to me.”

Say What?!

“The speaker of the House who is currently facing felony charges will present the articles of impeachment to the governor, accused of a sex scandal, and the whole thing will be presided over by the chief justice who was once removed from office for ethics violations. This is either a grave insult to the state of Alabama or the most Alabama thing that state has ever done.”

– John Oliver skewered the state of Alabama over the governor’s sex scandal.

BUZZING: Today in the Hive

From a TPM Prime member: “The latest news from the Sanders campaign, continuing to beat the DNC data break conspiracy horse, makes me think that rather than talking about firing DNC Chair DWS, we should be talking about Bernie Sanders firing his campaign manager Jeff Weaver. Bernie has talked about never running a negative campaign, and campaigning with respect and dignity for himself, the voters, and his opponents. At every chance, it seems like Mr Weaver is more interested in winning, no matter how far it’s stretches the truth or his candidate’s values. In October Jeff implied that Secretary Clinton was a craven hypocrite, and that they would do better than the Obama campaign, and at least “consider her for VP.” After Sanders’ staffers unethically downloaded data that they should not have, while Bernie apologized and looked to move forward on the issue, his campaign manager and others on his staff, refused to apologize for anything, and practically denied any wrong doing. Senior strategist Tad Devine, before the last Democratic Debate, compared the data breach to Hillary Clinton’s vote to authorize military force that lead to the Iraq War.”

Related: Josh Marshall says he thinks Weaver is the key source of toxicity in the Sanders campaign.
