Justice Department Demands Records From Pro-Bachmann Super PAC

Investigations continue to swirl in the aftermath of Rep. Michele Bachmann’s failed presidential campaign.

The New York Times on Thursday reported that a federal probe is looking into whether a super PAC illegally coordinated with Bachmann’s campaign staff, including her husband. According to a grand jury subpoena seen by the Times, the Justice Department last week demanded records from the super PAC, the National Fiscal Conservative PAC.

From the Times:

The investigation appears to stem from a complaint a former campaign staff member made to the Federal Election Commission and to the F.B.I. The staff member told of overhearing the president of the super PAC asking a Bachmann senior adviser about buying advertising on radio and TV stations in Des Moines ahead of the Iowa caucus on Jan. 3, 2012.

The House Ethics Committee in July announced that it was extending its investigation into Bachmann. Bachmann faces multiple allegations of campaign finance violations.
