Using his recent stint as head of the National Rifle Association’s school safety task force as a spring board, former Republican Rep. Asa Hutchinson officially declared his candidacy for governor of Arkansas on Wednesday, a move that has been expected for some time.

Hutchinson served in Congress from 1997-2001, leaving to serve as Drug Enforcement Administration administrator under then-President George W. Bush. He ran for governor in 2006 but lost to the current governor, Democrat Mike Beebe.
