Penn State Fires University President Graham Spanier, Football Coach Paterno

Penn State’s trustees have fired university president Graham Spanier and head football coach Joe Paterno, effectively immediately, the AP and others report. The university has been caught up in a sex scandal involving the team’s defensive coordinator, Jerry Sandusky, who was arrested earlier this month on charges of sexual abuse of young boys.
