Energy Secretary Rick Perry, whose involvement in the Ukraine scandal is becoming steadily clearer, would not commit Wednesday to complying with a House subpoena related to his role in the scheme.
“Listen, the House has sent a subpoena over for the records that we have, and our general counsel and the White House counsel are going through the process right now,” he said on the Fox Business Network. “I’m going to follow the lead of my counsel on that.”

Perry’s involvement in the pressure campaign to force Ukrainian officials to manufacture dirt on the Bidens first became evident when the whistleblower wrote that he led the U.S. delegation to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s inauguration. During that trip, the whistleblower said in his complaint, Perry made clear to Zelensky that President Donald Trump would hold back military aid until he could assess how Zelensky would act in office.
George Kent, the deputy assistant secretary of state responsible for Ukraine, implicated Perry even further to House investigators Tuesday, saying that he was one of the “three amigos” charged with handling U.S.-Ukrainian relations and the pressure campaign specifically.

May be the smart move for him. Let everyone else testify first, so he knows which lies he was planning to tell are no longer operative.

Perry is a fool if he doesn’t comply, at least so far he seems on the periphery of what was going on. At most, he may have ben involved in trying to install people to run the Ukrainian LNG industry and get gas from Texas in there…that helps his friends and donors, so it’s a bit corrupt (more so if he was going to get a kickback or position in the company), but it’s not trying to overturn the next election corruption. Someone like him could weasel out of any punishment over whatever he might have been involved in, especially if he plays dumb (which he’s pretty good at
).
Going along with Rudy and Trump on blocking the investigation loops him into the dirty dealing, and that’s not going to turn out well for any of them, based on what we know now. The first person to make a deal always gets the best deal, that’s where he should be thinking.
