Jeff Flake Endorses Mitt Romney For President

Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ)

Mitt Romney’s recent swing through Arizona has borne some politically nutritious fruit in the form of an endorsement from Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ).

Flake’s a notorious anti-earmark warrior with big support among the fiscal conservative types Romney and the rest of the presidential field is courting. Flake, like Romney, is a Mormon but back in 2008, geographic connects beat religious ones and he endorsed fellow Arizonan John McCain for the nomination over Romney.

Flake’s now running for Senate, and is expected to be his party’s nominee.

But while Flake is a great get on the fiscal front, some of this other votes have raised concerns on the social conservative front, as Matt Lewis documented last year. Flake voted in favor of ending Don’t Ask Don’t Tell (he one was one of just 15 Republicans to do that during the 2010 lame duck session), a stance that drew a rebuke from the Family Research Council.
